Test the Kill Switch: Attach the multimeter's one probe to the kill switch wire and the other to ground. Flip the kill switch off; if the resistance changes, the switch is good.

Remove the Old Spark Plug: Remove the spark plug from the cylinder, then reattach it to the spark plug boot.

Check for Spark: Ground the spark plug electrode on the engine block. Pull the recoil starter and check for spark.

New Spark Plug Test: Install a new spark plug and repeat step 3. If there is no spark, the ignition coil is bad.
